How to become an umpire

This is a paid position.

To become an umpire you must meet the following criteria:

  • Thirteen years and older
  • Must have played baseball, or have an excellent knowledge of the game
  • Must be bilingual
  • Must be patient and be able to take criticism from coaches or fans
  • You must attend a weekend course to attain your umpiring level.

This course is given in the Lac St. Louis region in either French or English and paid for by Pierrefonds baseball.
Courses are posted online on Lac St louis Baseball website in the spring.

Please note: All new umpires are required to register for Level 1 course.

Equipment will be supplied by the Pierrefonds Baseball Association. The chest protector and mask must be returned by the end of the season.

Dress Code:

  • Grey dress pants
  • Dark socks
  • Dark shoes or cleats.

After you have taken the course you must be willing and available to work.  If not you will be obliged to reimburse Pierrefonds baseball for the cost of the course.
